I'm not sure the indie music world, such as the United States, Canada or UK in terms of playing gigs, but I know that in Australia we still have places that pay guarantees for bands to play.
This is great to know exactly how much you are going to be paid on late night services provided. Making is also calm you are in a false sense of security thinking that shows how much better you play more.
That might be true if each show to play and to ensure, but what happens if you have to charge at the door and did not grow on grass-roots? I learned this lesson quickly.
In 1995 I moved from Adelaide to Sydney to continue my career and music and were able to get my band Hot refrigerator, with two good players and really the first time it is up to me to get gigs. I feel good with a gift of "gossip" and so I went and got a lot of vehicles for the next three months.
And I am glad that I was a gang "working", but I was not prepared for what happened afterwards. Hot fridge was paid, in essence, to play and we lose money.
I spent all my efforts into getting concerts forgot to develop a strategy to get people actually to vehicles. When we're not playing in front of the small number of people we hire them enough to get their information so we can communicate with them in future vehicles. It is safe to say that my three-piece band were not very happy.
I realized then that the most important thing is the number of vehicles that have played, but the amount of people have played. When I fell and I immediately called a band meeting, saying people discover my country.
The following nine months, "Hot refrigerator" was the band that played better, but played a greater number of people. They found the concept of quality vehicles, vehicle amount.
Every concert or performance that indie band or artist you must be a kind of logic behind it. Once you start to tell you that there is only one show to do, then do it yourself (and the public, your potential fans you) any favors at all.
I can say from experience that you too alone out there when you charge money for the door, and there are only three people (along with band and two of his colleagues that want to charge) in attendance.
When you're booking gigs, and focus on quality not quantity gig.
